INSTRUCTIONS:
A piece of writing that helps you make or do something by giving you the materials and detailed steps is a proceedural piece of writing or instructions.
You might find them in a recipe, instructions on how to change your bike tyre or in how to make a friend.
Instructions might have diagrams or photos of the completed project.
Look at these success criteria when you write your instructions or make a comment to help us improve our writing.
EXPLANATION:
A piece of writing that makes something clear - a reason why it happened, how it happened, what it is and how it works. An example might be explaining some science or a myth of why something came into being - How Maui slowed the sun! It might also be explaining what Daily 5 is and how it works.
